Helen Mavrodis is a devoted mother of two children and a proud fur parent, and she finds joy in reading and indulging in crafts outside of her professional life. Her journey into audiology wasn’t a conventional one, as she initially ventured into office administration before finding her niche in the healthcare sector. After graduating with a Diploma in Audiology in 2006, Helen’s passion for helping customers stemmed from her close collaboration with Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists.
“It wasn’t a career that was ever talked about or recommended at school, but in working closely with ENT in managing ear health, I wanted to help customers hear the world around them,” says Helen.
Navigating through various certifications and diplomas, Helen embarked on a journey in audiology. Driven by a desire to establish her own business while leveraging support to achieve this goal, Helen found her calling as an Audiology partner at Specsavers Plumpton.
Recognising the integral role of customer care in audiology, Helen points out the significance of helping her customers meet their hearing needs effectively. She understands the profound impacts of hearing loss, including social anxiety and depression, and the importance of providing support to those affected.
“There’s a transformative power of hearing aids, they open up a world of hearing for clients, enabling them to connect with loved ones and participate in various activities,” she says.
Before joining Specsavers, Helen knew of its reputation in providing affordable eyewear. However, she was pleasantly surprised to discover its commitment to offering affordable hearing care as well.
Helen’s journey to becoming a partner involved examinations and a stint at the Blacktown store, where she significantly increased screening numbers and revenue, paving the way for her partnership.
Now as a partner at the Plumpton store in a bustling plaza surrounded by aged care homes, Helen is excited about the prospect of working with her new team. Despite the challenges of starting afresh, she is motivated by the support and camaraderie among her colleagues.
Throughout her induction and initial opening phase, Helen’s opinion of Specsavers evolved positively, as she experienced unwavering support and guidance from the organisation.
Describing the Specsavers approach as customer-centric and non-pushy, Helen appreciates how the screening process seamlessly integrates into customers’ yearly health checks, making it less daunting for them. For Helen, the allure of partnership lies in the challenge of establishing her own business with the backing of a supportive network. She sees it as a tangible opportunity to achieve personal and professional growth.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Helen acknowledges the challenges of building a new team and starting with an empty appointment book. However, she finds comfort in the success she has already achieved and the ongoing support from Specsavers. Reflecting on her experience to date, Helen credits Specsavers for providing thorough inductions and ongoing business development support, which have been instrumental in her journey to partnership.
Looking to the future, Helen’s goals encompass growing a profitable and successful business while helping her customers achieve their hearing goals. She believes that Specsavers offers audiologists a unique opportunity to advance their careers and establish their own successful ventures.
