Melissa finds the perfect way to discover what Specsavers partnership is all about

2 December 2021

Melissa Fu is a Specsavers Audiologist at Neutral Bay and Balgowlah stores in NSW. Originally from New Zealand, she moved to Australia after graduating from the University of Auckland to pursue her next career prospects.

With a background in biomedical sciences, Melissa completed her degrees in science and was later offered a role in Sydney as a research scientist. However, after a few years, she realised her passion shifted to clinical health.

Melissa’s motivation to move into audiology was personal with her grandfather’s hearing deteriorating over the years.

“Due to the stigma associated with hearing aids, he refused to seek help, so I decided to become an audiologist to help my grandpa and others with their hearing loss,” says Melissa.

While Melissa is not a partner right now, taking on a cover role in a temporary capacity has been the perfect way to try first and discover what partnership is all about.

“I see the maternity cover role as an excellent opportunity to gain an insight into Specsavers and prepare myself for partnership.

“Owning my own business has always been my dream. Taking on a maternity cover role at a partnership level will give me firsthand experience and a perfect gateway to become a partner in the future.

“The extensive network of support covers all aspects of running a business. It is something I would not experience with other companies,” adds Melissa.

Melissa’s ambitions to become a Specsavers partner while in a caretaker capacity has given her the confidence that she will have all the support she needs at her disposal.

“I know I won’t be thrown in the deep end all by yourself. Having the opportunity to gain insight into partnership first, I know the support office will provide extensive training as well as ongoing support,” says Melissa.
